Privacy policy

What this site collects, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. Short version: we collect very little, we don't track you, and we never sell anything.

Last updated 1 October 2026

Who we are

Jhigu Jala is run by the Jhigu Jala volunteer team for Harisiddhi (Jala), Lalitpur, Nepal. Questions about this policy go to contact@example.com.

What we collect

What you choose to submit

You don't need an account to use the site or to submit anything. When you do submit something, we receive what you type into the form:

  • Notices: the title, text and who it's from.
  • Photos and videos: the photos you upload or the link you share, a caption and the name you give.
  • Directory listings: the name, description, category, address, phone, email and website of the place being listed.
  • Stories: the title, text, who it's about and the author name you give.

These are submitted for publication - names and contact details you enter will be shown publicly once an editor approves the submission. Don't include anything you wouldn't want on a public noticeboard.

Your phone number or email, if you give one, is different: it's private. Only the editors can see it, so they can check something with you or confirm a submission is genuine. It's never published, it's deleted along with a declined submission, and you can ask for it to be removed at any time.

Photos you upload are processed before they're stored: very large ones are resized, and hidden details - such as the exact place a phone photo was taken - are removed. Photos you only link to stay as they are on the site where they're hosted.

Editors

Editors who review submissions have an account with an email address and password. Signing in sets a cookie that keeps them signed in. Visitors never need an account.

Technical information

Like most websites, the server may keep standard logs - such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested - for security and fixing problems. These are kept for a limited time and aren't used to identify or profile visitors.

When you submit or upload something, we record the network (IP) address and browser it came from. Only the editors can see this; it's used to deal with spam and abuse and to answer lawful requests from the authorities, and it's deleted after 90 days.

Likes, "going" and views

These are counted anonymously. Your browser keeps a random number so that you're counted once and can change your mind; it isn't linked to your name, your contact details or any other website. Clearing your browser's data resets it.

Cookies and browser storage

The site uses no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. If you switch to dark mode or choose a language, that choice is saved in your own browser (local storage) so it's remembered next time - it never leaves your device.

Other services the site uses

  • Google Fonts provides the site's typefaces. Your browser downloads them from Google, which means Google receives your IP address.
  • YouTube and Vimeo videos in the gallery are embedded from those services. Playing one lets that service set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy.
  • Sharing uses your device's own share menu - we don't see which app you share to, or with whom.

How we use information

Only to review, publish and look after the content on the site, to answer you if you contact us, and to keep the site secure. We don't sell or rent information, and we don't use it for marketing.

How long we keep it

Published content stays up while it's useful to the community, or until you ask us to remove it. Submissions an editor declines are deleted, together with any photos and contact details they included. Technical logs are removed on a rolling basis.

Your choices

You can ask us to correct or remove something you submitted, or something about you that someone else submitted. Email contact@example.com with a link to the page. We handle personal information in line with Nepal's Individual Privacy Act, 2075 (2018).

Children

If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before submitting anything. We'll remove content that identifies a child if a parent or guardian asks.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new "last updated" date.
